Imagine Justice and Liberty for All

On Monday, August 21 I went to the #ImagineJustice concert held at the Capitol Mall in Sacramento. #ImagineJustice, or Imagine Justice, was put on by the legendary Common and friends to raise awareness around the criminal justice system. With the help of Anti-Recidivism Coalition as well as California Endowment, the Grammy Award winning performer and 2018 Emmy nominee held a free concert that over 30,000 people attended.

He united concert attendees by spreading a message promoting peace and social activism. For those who were unable to attend the event, they tuned in live via Common's YouTube page. #ImagineJustice quickly became a trending topic as tweeters chatted about performances by J.Cole, Goapele, Ledisi, Andra Day and Los Rakas as well as insightful words by CNN correspondent Van Jones.

Common will follow up the concert with his nationwide Hope & Redemption Prison Tour. As part of the tour he will visit various prisons to perform for inmates and help fight recidivism. In preparation for his tour and Imagine Justice, Common met with the Governor of California as well as various elected officials. Some of those same officials were in the crowd at Monday's event and connected with the citizens that they serve.

After attending such a memorable event, I realized my wish was a simple one: I hope that all of us imagine justice. I yearn for the days of equality for all. We are on the cusp of a breakthrough - we just need everyone to speak up in the name of love. Would you love to learn more about Common's cause? Peace and Love,
