Wish granted: Water for the Aetas of Bihawo

As one of the elders said, "they’re going to leave this place (their tribe) with joy knowing that no kids of their clan will suffer the absence of accessible and safer water, from this day."

We started constructing the water pump last December 29 but due to the area being in the mountains and the ground having a rocky surface it was difficult to dig to get to the water source underneath but thanks to Simonetta Lein and The Wishwall Foundation, we were able to finish building the potable water pump last January 15, where we were joined but the children and elders in the tribe for a ribbon-cutting and a little celebration. Together with the elders, we did a little "Bayanihan" (a spirit of communal unity and cooperation) to put a roof for the water pump made of cogon grass a material we use for our huts here in the Philippines.

This water pump will make safe and clean water accessible to the indigenous community of Sitio Bihawo not just for the men, women, and children currently in the tribe but also for the generations that will come.

That is why from us, The Smile Project, and the Bihawo tribe, we thank Simonetta Lein and The Wishwall Foundation.
