Uganda’s forests have been depleted due to subsistence agriculture, charcoal production and poverty. Uganda has lost 41.6% of its forest cover in the last 100 years (1921-2021). In 1900, Uganda’s forest cover was at 54%. And by 2017, it was at 12.4%.94% of Ugandans rely on fuel wood with a few urban on charcoal because gas is expensive.
We therefore wish to employ local communities to plant, protect, manage and monitor reforestation projects. We will promote intercropping and community agro -forestry address food security and reduce pressure on existing forests and project future forests. Looking at the adverse effects of climate change, we wish to initiate a tree planting project in Kasese district, Uganda. The climate crisis is largely impacting communities with very poor livelihoods. Our campaign will involve fruit and non fruit trees, this way, communities will earn income from the sale of fruits and timber, have enough food, fight malnutrition as well as fighting climate change
