PROJECT REBIRTH

Project rebirth is one of our ways of value creation in Enactus Adekunle Ajasin University.

This project is targeted towards solving the problem of child hawking and improper waste management or disposal in Akoko community.

After a need assessment carried out in Akoko communities we realize that the rate of children involved in illegal labors in Nigeria is skyrocketing and alarming, kids between the ages of five to fifteen hawking goods on the highway to road users.

In which there are lots of dangers, kidnaping, assaults or death through vehicular accidents while they are supposed to be in the four walls of their class rooms, learning.as a result of high level of poverty and their parents financial incapacitation, they lose their chance to education which is the best legacy any one can have.

We further carried out a survey which brought to our notice that majority of the children involved in child labor are from broken homes or single parenthood and for the purpose of survival , parents employ the services of their children in doing manual or illegal labor to raise money for the family.

Even though there are several legal enactments such as child right act that is applicable to Nigeria to curb this menace, it has done little or nothing to combat it to the grass root where it is highly prevalent. This is one of the problem that encourage child labor in the country as a whole.

Project rebirth provide solution to this problems by training the mothers of these children on how to have a sustainable source of income generation through sewing

One of the aim of the project is to empower women in Ondo state, Nigeria with sewing machines to give them a source of income generation and improve their standard of living.

However, we are so grateful to the WISHWALL foundation and Ms.Simonetta Lein a social activist and social media influencer, as they have decided to support this project by providing us the sowing machine that we will use to empower the women on 20th December 2019 at Enactus Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Ondo State,Nigeria. Sequel to this development the project will commence in mid-November to mid-December, 2019

The timeline for this project is as scheduled:

1.Project campaign and sensitization about the project at the targeted communities which will last one week (Monday, November 18th- Saturday 23rd )

2.Training the women in sewing skills which will last 3 weeks (Monday, November 25th- Saturday, December 14th ,2019

3.The presentation of the machines as empowerment materials which will commence on December 20th 2019 (in time for Christmas)

The team will provide the trainers to train the women in sewing skills for the period of the three weeks.

#Water ForThe People Project Funded by The WishWall Foundation 2024. #AWishGrantedInProgress The rural population of Muwanga in kiboga district Uganda draws their water from unprotected springs or swamps located from 300 to 600 meters (328 to 656 yards) from the villages or from hand-dug wells, locally known as (bidiba). The (bidiba) are primitive wells with an average depth of about six meters and with a diameter about the size of a large truck tire and uncovered at the top. The water collected from swamps (bidiba) is used for bathing, washing clothes, cooking and drinking, also shared, by cows, goats, hens and dogs Unfortunately, the shared use of swamps, (bidiba),springs for washing laundry, bathing and cooking is unsanitary and promotes a number of health problems. According to 2021 clinical data/information obtained from mama Tendo who owns a local clinic here in Kigoma Village most of the sick patients she treats suffer from diarrhea, typhoid, dysentery and intestinal stomach aches. The WishwallFoundation is Funding Muwanga Development Association a local organisation to establish a modren Well to provide safe-clean water the people of kiboga in Uganda. The president of Muwanga Development Association said “ the local people here have contracted diseases from these dirty water sources for many years” but now friends from The WishwallFoundation have done them good” A BIG THANK YOU.

In the past few weeks, we have embarked on a renewed health project with the WishWall Foundation to support good health and well-being. We have made substantial progress with renovating the primary health care center. As a result of the tireless work of skilled labor, we have completed the flooring, replaced wooden window outlets with Aluminium windows, and fixed leakages on the roof. Also, we are happy to commence the reconstruction of the toilet facility, which will be completed in a few weeks. At the end of the toilet construction, we shall begin the final phase of painting and donating drugs and some medical equipment to the facility.

Title: Meet Prinicipal Claris Madame Claris played soccer with KGSA back in the early 2000s before it evolved into a free high school for girls. She was an amazing goalkeeper and still enjoys playing ⚽️ with her students. Claris has been teaching math and geography for over ten years at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy and leads the school as Principal. Adebisi shared the challenges they have been facing for over four years at the hospital. she highlighted challenges which include leaking roofs, the absence of perimeter fencing, and shortage of rooms for patients. Last year, the Executive Director of iRead To Live Initiatve, Jacob Sule accompanied by Ayisat Abiona , Program Manager of iRead visited some schools in Osun State Nigeria as part of their intervention for literacy & efforts to transforming education in Nigeria. They were displeased by what they saw and reached out to their partners, the WishWall Foundation for support. The Founder of WishWall Foundation, Ms Simonetta Lein graciously approved funding for the renovation of the library. iRead Initiative hired skilled labors for the reconstruction of the external Walls , painters to paint the facility and artisans to build new books shelves, and tables. Today... From all of us at iRead, we are super excited and grateful to the WishWall Foundation to be able to do this, support literacy and transform education in Osun State Nigeria. Today is Equal Pay Day! Sixty years after it became illegal to pay men more than women for similar work, we’re still playing catch up in the USA. Wishwall believes that women deserve equal pay for equal work! It’s disappointing that women are still paid less than men across all industries. Towering over the tin roof homes in Kibera, the new dormitory at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA) is the pride of the Makina neighborhood. This state of the art three story facility has a rooftop soccer field that just recently began providing a safe place for girls to study, eat, sleep (and dream). KGSA is a free, holistic high school that serves 130 girls every year located in the largest informal settlement – the largest slum – in Africa. Almost a million people live in a region the size of New York City’s Central Park with no running water, bathrooms or reliable electricity in their homes. This is where Kenya’s first free high school for girls (KGSA) was established. @kgsafoundation @simonettalein

While the educational gender gap has been decreasing in Sub-Saharan Africa, there’s still room for improvement. The World Economic Forum in 2022, identified that amount of girls in lower and upper secondary levels is not at the same rate as their male peers. In a country, where 44% of girls don't finish high school, the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy is filling a tremendous need for girls and their families in Kenya. Unlike the USA, public high school isn’t free in Kenya. Many families can’t afford to pay for the high school tuition, uniforms, books, school supplies and other fees for their children, so boys often get preferential treatment leaving the girls behind. Many girls become teen brides and teen mothers depending on men to support them. Research shows that girls who complete high school earn more, marry later and have less children. That’s why KGSA’s mission is so important! KGSA educates 130+ girls a year giving girls the opportunity to shape their future and break the cycle of poverty. We are a proud partner of the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy and hope others will join us in supporting this very important school in Kenya in 2023. #EducateHer4Life

It’s been a long three weeks, but Aisha finished her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams! She and her senior classmates have ended their high school journey at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy. They will spend the holidays with their families eagerly waiting to hear their exam results sometime in January. All of these beautiful, bright and talented girls dream of attending university. Soccer is in KGSA’s name, so of course they’re watching the World Cup! Despite cheering for different teams, the girls and teachers are all celebrating Morocco - the first African nation EVER to qualify for the World Cup semifinals. Skilled workers have commenced construction of the perimeter fencing and staircase to access the library. Before this moment, it was difficult for pupils to access the library because of the bad state of the library due to erosion that washed away the stairs. #ThankYouWishWallFoundation

Aisha and two of her sisters are seniors at KGSA! These three beautiful, bright young ladies study together and encourage each other to do their best. Today is the 10th annual International Day of the Girl. We celebrate Aisha and the other 135 girls studying at KGSA and the 370 girls who have graduated through the years. When we invest in girls, we transform their lives and enable them to uplift everyone and everything around them breaking the cycle of poverty for themselves, their families and their communities.
