Youth 4 Food Security

Date Published: 10/23/2023

Youth Health Africa’s Food Security is a program that aims to improve food security within health facilities in South Africa, whilst creating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for unemployed youth. In response to the UN SDG 2 goal of Zero Hunger, the program will use smart farming techniques to grow vegetables in health facilities. A portion of the vegetables grown will be donated to the centers to improve nutritional needs and sustenance of the patients and the remaining portion will be sold to the local markets for income generation to maintain the farm. The hydroponics infrastructure benefits the early childhood development center by provision of nutritional produce, the community benefits from competitive prices of the produce, and the unemployed youth, will be trained and upskilled as agri-preneurs, employable in the agricultural space and supported in establishing and maintaining the smart farming unit across the agricultural value chain.
Youth Health Africa is a registered Not-for-Profit organisation which provides a one-year skills development program, empowering disenfranchised youth through work experience in healthcare and agriculture sectors. The youth are empowered with quality working experience, a monthly stipend, as well as in-depth knowledge and skills for empowerment and employability.
